Let’s Not Grow Tired

by Katie Foster

Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary. Isaiah 40:28-31

Devotion
Isaiah reminds us that we all need rest, no matter how strong or energetic we may seem. Eventually, we all reach our limits, whether we anticipate it or not. Rather than expecting us to work harder or faster, God offers rest and renewal. He reminds us that exhaustion is not a sign of failure but an invitation to be restored through Him. Sometimes, His reminders come in unexpected ways.

While working in the yard after a few particularly trying weeks, I noticed a snail on the pavers surrounding a small garden bed. This sighting felt surprisingly significant in the moment. While some may come across snails regularly, this was the first time I’d found one in my garden.

As I worked nearby, I caught glimpses of her antennae as she peeked from her shell. I admired the dainty home she carried on her back, a tiny house where she finds refuge. Later, when I returned to check on my new friend, I noticed a faint silvery trail behind her. Curled safely inside her shell, she was resting.

I now realize God sent a big reminder through one of His smallest creatures. All around us, His creation reminds us that He provides seasons for grand, colorful transformations and seasons for quiet, intentional retreat. These times and spaces are not signs of weakness, but places of shelter and restoration He provides.

Whether we fly like eagles, run with purpose, or simply walk one small step at a time, God’s everlasting presence carries us forward. Sometimes, our hope in Him looks less like flying and more like leaving a small silvery trail of faith behind us.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for supporting me through all the seasons of my life. Your spirit works in every facet of creation, providing a shell of refuge and restoration. Through Your renewal, I will achieve higher ground. We love You, Lord. Amen.
