Take This Path

Did you ever wonder about the path you’ve taken in life? Did you ever wonder about the decision you are about to make or the one you made? I do. I sometimes wish I had a GPS that told me, “Go this way, it’s the right path.” Maybe, having a crystal ball that could answer all my questions and let me see how my decisions turned out before I make them.

I remember a black Magic 8 Ball from my childhood. You ask a question, shake the ball and it would answer all your questions. Of course, my questions were much easier back then, “Should I buy a Snickers bar?” Of course, if I didn’t like the answer, I’d shake that black ball again but really violently to get the answer I wanted.

And therein lies my problem. Making decisions, big or small, can be grueling. If I had that crystal ball or GPS, I’d question the answer I got because I’m not really sure it was giving me the best, absolutely positive, ‘for sure’ answer. I’d be spending more time asking the same question again and again and again and again…and probably worded in many different ways.

So where does this lead me? Well, to the Bible of course! In the Bible, I have been told the path to take. I’ve been told what happens when I stray off that path. I’ve been told what is right and what is wrong and the consequences of not following those directions.

The Bible is not a crystal ball but it helps me get through life knowing by making decisions based on; “ trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. I need to make decisions based on wisdom, truth and love. Now about that Snickers bar…

Prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t know what today or tomorrow will bring. But I know that everything I am faced with is first sifted through Your loving hands.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Epilogue: I hadn’t thought about that Magic 8 Ball in many years so I thought I’d check to see if they still make it…and they DO! I also found people were asking if it really was accurate. That the Magic 8 Ball is the, “Ultimate Oracle”!
