“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” – Jeremiah 33:3
I have often wished that God had a cell phone. Before cell phones I wished He had a phone, a walkie talkie, tin cans & a string, or at least send me a burning bush to deliver me a clear message for the times when I need direction. The times when I’m concerned about making the absolute best, correct decision. The times I need to know it’s God will and not my own desires. How is it Samuel could hear God so clearly and I can’t?
On the other hand, I ask myself, “Am I caught up in praying, praying and demanding. Am I not paying close enough attention to God when He is trying to talk to me? Am I being oblivious to the fact that I am doing all the talking and not listening?”
Then, if I do hear from God, what do I do? I ask for verification. Is this really You Lord? Or I find I need to argue the points of my case with God because I really am not happy with the answer I just received. Seriously. Am I never satisfied?
Just like with everything else, I’ve found that it takes practice. And I’m still practicing. I’ve found that the connection progresses as I’ve grown spiritually. As I’ve become more aware of my relationship with God as I’ve learned to become ‘still’ and aware. I’ve learned that when God really wants to get my attention He may send the message through different mediums of communication. Sometimes through friends. Sometimes through a Bible verse. Sometimes through a sermon. And sometimes through a devotional I may read. These are the times it’s much more than mere coincidences occurring in my life.
I’ll leave you with this quote I found:
“I was praying, talking to God and then I opened my Bible and God won’t stop talking to me!” (author unknown)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for always being there for me. For your patient listening. Remind me to be a listener rather than always doing the talking. Amen
