Adult Ministry (September through May)
- Micah: Prophet of Justice, Mercy, and Humility
Sundays at 11 a.m. in Classroom 4
This fall, this class will examine what Micah had to say to the people of God in his time and what he may have to say to us today. Facilitator Mike Gorman is a Scripture professor and has been leading classes at Community UMC for more than 15 years. All are welcome. - Contemporary Issues Group: “The Six Conversations: Connecting in an Age of Isolation and Incivility”
Sundays at 10:50 a.m. in the SanctuaryWhat if our faith could help us speak with courage instead of fear, listen with curiosity instead of defensiveness, and build trust across real differences? In the new year, we invite our entire church—children, youth, adults, long-time members and newcomers alike—to take part in a shared study and practice of “The Six Conversations: Pathways to Connecting in an Age of Isolation and Incivility” by Heather Hollman. This short book offers four mindsets (being curious, believing the best about another person, expressing concern, and mutual sharing) which requires patience born of Spirit-fed-faith. And then it offers three fresh goals for conversation (encouraging, stimulating growth, and marveling) which leads to a larger goal of transforming communities. We can love one another beyond artificial labels and enjoy conversations beyond superficial pleasantries.
- Walking through the Bible
Sundays at 11 a.m. in the Library
We study the Bible methodically and deeply (good for Methodists!) Explore the Bible one line at a time—unpacking its history, culture, and timeless relevance for today. All are welcome to join. Faciliated by EK James.
