Conversations on the Social Principles of the UMC

What do you believe about reproductive health, human sexuality, civil disobedience, immigrant rights, climate change, corporate responsibility, war, and taxation? How well do your beliefs track with your understanding of the Bible and the Kingdom of God as revealed by the law, the prophets, by Christ Jesus and the apostles? CUMC is offering a short series of classes which address Creation Care, Economics, the Social Community (including human sexuality and reproductive rights), and the Political Community (including basic rights and freedoms). These classes will allow participants to explore United Methodist positions on these topic as written in the new “Social Principles.”

The Social Principles represent the prayerful and earnest efforts of the United Methodist Church’s General Conference, its highest legislative body, to speak to issues in the contemporary world from a sound biblical and theological foundation that is in keeping with the best of our United Methodist traditions. The Social Principles are a call to faithfulness and to social engagement and intended to be instructive and persuasive in the best of the prophetic spirit. Moreover, they challenge all members of The United Methodist Church to engage in deliberative reflection and encourage intentional dialogue between faith and practice.
