New Sermon Series: Bah Humbug

Join us for our new Advent worship series, beginning December 1!

“What reason have you to be merry?” scoffed Ebenezer Scrooge in the classic Christmas tale, by Charles Dicken, A Christmas Carol. With the increased stress and busyness often associated with the month of December, you may find yourself feeling like Scrooge. Christmas? Humbug! Maybe you can’t afford Christmas. Maybe you’ve lost or never had – loved ones. Maybe your expectations or your perfections for the holidays leave a letdown after the season has quieted. The simple fact is that problems are often aggravated by the pressures the holidays bring. That’s why the truth needs to sink in – Christmas is a holy day more than a holiday. Christmas brings joy and healing when Christ is present. Decorations and gifts can add to the celebration, but they must not overshadow the ultimate Gift – to which all out gifts should point.

This Advent season, will you be preparing for a holy day or a holiday? Won’t you sing, “O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray.” And hear the promise, “Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.” Make this your prayer this Advent and join us for our worship series, beginning December 1, to take the Bah and Humbug out of Christmas.
