As we presented before a recent church service, the sanctuary carpet is in very poor condition. Since we removed all the church furniture, now is the best (and least expensive) time to replace the carpet. A new line item has been established for those who would like to donate the flooring cost. Donations may be made in the following ways:
- Via check. Please write “Sanctuary Flooring” in the memo line
- Online using a credit card at this link.
- Cash donations may be placed in offering envelopes. Please label with “Sanctuary Flooring”
February 27:
Great news! PCCi worked in earnest the last two days to put up the video walls and connect them to power and control. They got more than half way with the right wall up and populated with modules, and the left wall frame work up, and wire pulled for control. This was somewhat behind what they planned for Tuesday, as they had to overcome a problem or two fishing the control and data wiring up the left wall from the chancel floor area.
Our two “project managers,” Gary Todd and Larry Rogers, are keeping watch on the status of the next shipment of lighting fixtures. There was nothing new to report today from PCCi.
Progress continues on purchasing new carpet and floor tile for the sanctuary and narthex. The narthex will be tiled and the rest of the sanctuary will get new carpet.
Please note how much the cross between the windows stands out in the photos. This is the desired effect that the small team on Nancy Kripner, Carol Moore, and Emily St. Louis were trying to achieve with the slightly contrasting paint color on the cross area. In the evening light, with the darkness outside because of the rain, the cross stands out very well.

The Mullan sub-contractors have completed all the work to provide a better appearance of the baffles. Some straightening has been done, and some drywall applied where it could best improve the appearance.
More drywall smoothing work on the vertical surfaces and on the ceiling has also been completed. Some drywall repairs were not yet painted as the drywall work quality control wanted a better smoothing effort in some areas.
Painting has moved ahead smartly and should be completed by Wednesday of this week. This painting combined with the dry wall work will provide a much improved look for the walls and ceiling.
A very difficult area to get to is where the bees got in the sanctuary, and where the bats poked their heads out. The good work of the contractors we brought in have chased these creatures out, but the cracks in the drywall above the front windows of the sanctuary were really hard to get at. The drywall and paint work also improved the looks of these areas.
The Trustees have selected a flooring provider, but we still have a few questions to be answered before we seal the deal. These questions include how the carpet will be laid, the selection of colors for the cove molding, and the cutting of inserts for the chancel rails (should we ever want to use them again).
The work on the video screen/video walls is tentatively scheduled to begin on February 26.
This part of the sanctuary improvement that supports the installation of the lighting and AV improvements is nearly completed. Our general contractor has done an exceptional job to date. We should say a prayer of Thanksgiving that we did not find some major item that had to be added to the work.
