New Members
The Christian faith was never intended to be a solo journey. The first followers of Jesus came together for teaching, meals, prayers, and more (Acts 2:42). Whether you are a lifelong United Methodist, looking to transfer to the United Methodist tradition, a brand new Christian, or even still exploring the Christian faith, we welcome conversation with you about membership in the United Methodist Church, and specifically at Community. Below you will find some information to read through about what it means to be a member of a church, and what vows we take as United Methodists. If you are interested in becoming a member of Community, or interested in learning more about what that means, please fill out our Membership Form and review our Membership Covenant. Then, we will be in touch to schedule a time for you to come and speak with our pastor.
Baptisms
Baptism is celebrated as part of our worship together. The Sacrament of baptism is shared with infants, children, youth, and adults that have not been baptized. It is a sign of God’s love for an individual, and the beginning of a lifelong journey with the community into closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Persons desiring baptism or parents wanting to bring their children for baptism should schedule a time to meet with the pastor. In most cases, we require that at least one parent or guardian be a member or regular participant in worship at Community UMC. The first step is to read the information below on the UMC’s beliefs on Baptism. After that, please fill out the relevant form and we will be in touch with you!
Weddings
Weddings are a chance to celebrate the love of two persons for each other, as a reflection of Christ’s love for us. The wedding vows build upon our baptismal covenant. The pastor is delighted to perform Christian wedding ceremonies for members and non-members, either at Community UMC or off-site. In most cases, pre-marital sessions are required for counseling and planning purposes. There are fees for the use of the church facility. If you are interested in having your wedding at Community, please contact the church office to begin the conversation.
Funerals
Funerals are a chance both to remember and celebrate the deceased’s life, and to anticipate the promise of resurrection in Jesus Christ. The pastor will perform Christian funeral services for members and non-members, either at Community UMC or off-site. For services held at church, we can help plan all aspects of the service, and if desired, host a reception or meal following the event. For more information, please contact the church office.
