Lent & Easter @ Community

Join us online this Sunday, April 5, for online worship at 10:00 AM. Following the service, Pastor Stan will be leading the Communion liturgy live online at 11:15 AM. Gather your grape juice and bread (or whatever equivalents you have!), and follow the link to Communion that will be on our Online Worship page on Sunday morning at cumc.net/online-worship.

On Thursday, April 9, our church and many Christians around the world will commemorate the night before Jesus’ crucifixion, the night when he shared an intimate meal with his disciples. In this season of “shelter in place,” our once planned Christ in the Passover presentation in the fellowship hall, will now be brought right into your home. You can visit the website now to read more about the Jewish Passover, find recipes, and learn how to prepare for watching the presentation on April 9. Then at 6:00 PM on April 9, join us for a Christ in the Passover celebration via our website at https://cumc.net/thursday/.

As a part of our Holy Week observance, we are inviting you to join us as we keep vigil with Christ on Good Friday by fasting from 9:00 AM to dusk. If you are new to the spiritual discipline of fasting, or desire to go deeper in your practice of fasting, visit this Personal Guide to Fasting and a Fasting Starter Kit (including tips, recipes, devotional materials and even a free e-book) from Dr. Bill Bright.

Additionally, we will be praying through the Seven Last Words of Christ together via Email. Be sure to subscribe to our weekly email newsletter list at cumc.net/newsletter in order to receive the Seven Last Words of Christ prayers and readings during the day on Good Friday.

On Sunday, April 12 we will celebrate the empty tomb of Jesus! Though we cannot be together physically, we WILL worship the Lord our God together, in Spirit and in truth. Join with us online for Easter Worship at 10:00 AM at cumc.net/online-worship.

We are working on coordinating a time for a Zoom call on Easter Sunday where we can proclaim together, in real time, that “Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed!” Because Zoom cannot handle so many people speaking together at the same time, Pastor Stan is inviting us to learn the American Sign Language for that phrase. Check out this video from our very own Clare Carhart teaching us the ASL. Please take some time over the next week and a half to learn it so we can join together, with joy, on Easter Sunday. Keep an eye out for information on the Zoom call.

Finally, Pastor Stan has invited us all to create crosses at home out of WHATEVER we can find, and display them in our yards for our neighbors to see. On Easter Sunday, he would like for all of us to decorate those crosses with flowers—real or paper! For instructions on how to make paper flowers, see our weekly email newsletter. We would love to share your photos of your crosses, before and after Easter.
