Community United Methodist Church has been immeasurably blessed by God with the people and resources that have been given to us to do ministry in our community and beyond. So each year on Christmas Eve Eve and Christmas Eve, we designate 100% of our offering to local and global missions as a sign of our continued trust in God’s goodness and provision. In keeping with the tradition of supporting missions with the Christmas Eve Offering, the Church Council has chosen the following recipients:
Since 2009, our BackPack Meals Ministry provides a “backpack” of non-perishable food every week during the school year to children at Crofton Elementary, Crofton Woods, and Nantucket Elementary. These students are recipients of the free breakfast and free lunch programs (FARM) and identified by the Guidance Counselors in each school. One counselor has characterized these children “as the neediest of the needy”. In the 2018-19 school year we are serving 37 children. Manna House is a wonderful organization which provides the homeless and poor of Baltimore City with the assistance and support to move towards independence and stability. Community UMC has been supporting Manna House for several years, providing and serving meals several times a year, along with fundraising efforts. Community UMC has had an on going 20 year relationship with the country of Zimbabwe and in the last few years, we have focused our efforts on a village called Hanwa. We have assisted in building schools, providing electricity and clean water, and improving health clinics. Most importantly, we have established lasting relationships with the Zimbabweans by visiting their village approximately every other year.
