“CHERISHING THE DIVINE WITHIN”
For over 20 years CUMC has supported Sarah’s House, a project of Catholic Charities, Anne Arundel County and the U.S. Army, that provides shelter, meals and casework support for homeless individuals and families in Anne Arundel County. The program, established in 1987 in Fort Meade, builds its mission on the following scripture from Hebrews, 13:2 following the example of Sarah and Abraham:
“DO NOT NEGLECT TO SHOW HOSPITALITY, FOR BY THAT MEANS SOME HAVE ENTERTAINED ANGELS WITHOUT KNOWING IT.”
Every month a team of 3-4 volunteers from our congregation visit to prepare an evening meal for the guests of Sarah’s House. Some months we serve as many as 60 women, children and men. Our menus vary from pot roast and vegetables, to stew and chicken dishes; we also take desserts prepared by our volunteer VIP “bakers”.
Many members of CUMC have participated in this project over the past 20+ years. Please accept the thanks from your congregation and from the “angels” who have been fed by your generosity and kindness.
