CHRISTIAN FORMATION

CUMC offers creative and engaging Sunday School classes during both the 9:00AM and 10:45AM services.

Children and Youth

At the 9:00AM service we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through 5th grade, with a mixture of all age activities and distinctly age appropriate activities. At the 10:45AM service, we have Sunday School for Pre-K (age 4) through High School. All of our teachers and leaders follow the Safe Sanctuary policy that has been adopted by CUMC.

We use a creative curriculum for children Pre-K thru 3rd Grade called Spark! Activate Faith by Sparkhouse Publishers. Spark is a creative program centered around immersing children in the major stories of the Bible. It is very hands on, and the wide variety of workshops (art, music, drama, science, cooking, games, etc…) appeal to a variety of learning styles and personalities. Read more about Spark! here

Adults

We have 3 adult Sunday School classes on Sunday morning that meet in the Education building during the 9:00AM and 10:45AM services. We also offer weekly bible studies throughout the year and during Lent and Advent. If you have any questions about the Christian Formation program at Community United Methodist Church, please do not hesitate to contact the church office at 410-721-9129 or cumc@cumc.net.

Adult Sunday School class offerings are:

9:00AM class led by Mike Gorman: Join us on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in the library, for a lively discussion on the topic of "The church's Mission in the New Testament." All are welcome for fellowship, prayer, study, and action. Call or email Mike with questions: 410-551-1108; mgorman@stmarys.edu.

9:00AM class led by EK James: An additional adult class is offered on Sunday morning at 9:00. This class is led by Mr. E.K. James one of CUMC's earliest members. He has studied the bible with students for decades and is able to go deeply on any bible subject that a student wishes to explore. E. K.'s Bible study reads a book of the Bible verse by verse which allows discussion of the culture at the time the book was written as well as reflections on how it can be applied in each of our lives. This group is open to and welcomes all church members who are seeking Christ. Please come and join in the adventure.

10:45AM class led by Joy McCrady: Have you been wanting to go deeper into Scripture but are nervous about how to get started? Is the Bible already a friendly companion and you are looking for a place to share your knowledge and experiences with a community of believers? The 10:45 am Adult Sunday School class is intended to create space for deeper fellowship, study, and reflection so that we may enrich our faith and put it into practice. If you are interested in joining the class, please email Joy McCrady at joymccrady@gmail.com.
