Community United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time office assistant to provide administrative support for our church office located in Crofton, MD. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

An employee of Community Church shall be a part of the CUMC community of faith as well as a member of the servant ministry team to fulfill the church's mission and vision. He or she works within the context of a Christian community. We believe that all paid servants are called to equip and empower unpaid servants, and shall look for opportunities to identify, invite, train, multiply, encourage and support persons in ministry.

I.CHARACTER

a.A follower of Christ in whom is seen the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, and who demonstrates servant-heartedness

b.As the person who first represents "the face of Christ through Community Church", practices courtesy and hospitality to members, regular attenders, guests, vendors, and any who enter our premises regardless of age, background and race

c.A person who listens with empathy, reports accurately, and maintains confidences according to the guidance of the lead pastor, and who is willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

d.A person who takes responsibility for the quality of their work and who does it as unto God

e.Supports the lead pastor and ministry team at CUMC as they seek to fulfill the mission of the Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world

II.REQUIREMENTS

a.Good computer skills, with competency and proficiency in Microsoft Office--including Word, Power Point, Publisher and Excel

b.Courteous, professional telephone manners

c.Knowledge of office equipment including copier and printers

d.Proficiency in grammar, editing and proof reading

e.High school diploma is minimum, with 3 years of administrative experience; associate's or bachelor's degree a plus

f.Familiarity with digital calendaring and database management; knowledge of ACS is a plus

g.Beneficial knowledge and/or willingness to learn the polity and organization of the

United Methodist Church

III.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

a.Prepares, duplicates and distributes weekly worship bulletin and news; prepares bulletins for weddings and funerals, as needed

b.Answers the telephone with hospitable telephone etiquette, takes accurate messages, follows up as necessary, and informs appropriately

c.Coordinates volunteers to assist in the production of bulletins, announcements, and mailings

d.Supports communication within the staff and among Ministry Team leaders

e.Records and circulates minutes of weekly staff meetings, including tasked assignments and due dates

f.Facilitates collaborative approaches to work

g.Maintains focus when interrupted, showing kindness without attitude, and accurately completes necessary tasks

h.Provides general office support for all church staff

i.Maintains church files, including keeping the ACS church membership database up-to-date

j.Assists the Church Council with duplication and distribution of minutes

k.Prepares for new member sessions, including but not limited to new member information, new member packets, certificates and registration forms,

l.Coordinates wedding plan information with the organist, custodian and wedding coordinator. Maintains the wedding register

m.Prepares sacrament certificates and special recognition certificates

n.Maintains inventory and orders office and church supplies

o.Sends reminders to unpaid servants for timely preparation of schedules for worship leaders, greeters and ushers

p.Prepares correspondence as requested by staff

q.Receives and distributes all church mail

r.Works closely with Communications/Facilities Coordinator

s.Coordinates church room usage and digital calendar when Communications/Facilities Coordinator is out of office

t.Coordinates the preparation of Charge Conference materials and supports preparation of the statistical reports

u.Other duties as assigned

IV.SUPERVISOR - Lead Pastor

V.HOURS - This is a part-time, non-exempt, 20 hour per week position. Hours are typically 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with 30 minutes for lunch, 4 days per week. However, this will be finalized with the church and employee.
